500 year old cob house

Cob house in Cornwall, England dated 1539. Near 500 years and still inhabited.

Cobs just a simple mix of clay and straw (though sand or some sort of grit is often used as well). Cob is cheap, infinitely recyclable and usually made from local materials - the clay and sand are usually extracted from the property where the building is built. They are fire resistant, and energy efficient 0 cool in summer and warm in winter.
